Shri Brahma Stuti (From Maheshwar Tantra)

The Shri Brahma Stuti from the third chapter of the Maheshwar Tantra is a hymn in which the gods adore Lord Brahma as the sole creator, sustainer, and dissolver of the world, the all-witnessing inner soul of the cosmos, and Hiranyagarbha dwelling within the egg formed of the twenty-four principles. Alarmed by a sudden, all-consuming fire that terrifies gods, demons, and mortals alike, they beseech the wise Grandsire, than whom nothing is higher, to discern its cause and ordain its remedy.

Maheshwar Tantra, Tritiya Patalm, Shloka 24-33 (श्री महेश्वर तंत्र, तृतीय पटलम्, श्लोक 24-33)

Salutations, salutations to you, the sole creator of the world; salutations, salutations to you, the sole sustainer of the world; salutations, salutations to you, the sole destroyer of the world, the infinite one who is the ground of the qualities of rajas, tamas, and sattva.

The cosmic egg arises from the twenty-four principles; within it you yourself, bearing the name Viranchi, are the refuge of the world. Yourself projecting forth the world, you, O Pitamaha (Grandsire), are extolled by the wise.

You are the witness of all, the inner soul of the world, Hiranyagarbha, the sole creator of the world. You are the destroyer and also the sustainer, O God; there is nothing else supreme beyond you.

You are the primal God, the ancient Purusha, verily self-luminous, unborn, the supreme Lord. Those whose minds are deluded by your maya - alas! - perceive manifoldness in you, the Lord.

You are the primal Purusha, the perfect and complete one; you are infinite and without any support. You create beings from the elements by your own maya.

This universe, with all its moving and unmoving beings, was created by your might. Why do you not protect it, as it blazes with a sudden fire?

O Lord, this world created by you will go to destruction. We do not know its cause; therefore, let it be pondered by you.

What is this unprecedented fire that has risen up, blazing on every side? By it this whole universe, together with gods, demons, and men, has been thrown into distress.

O greatly wise one, devise the means to quell that fire. Otherwise, this very day the worlds will be reduced to naught but ashes.

Thus, having reflected upon the anguished words of those devas who were praising him, through the yoga of meditation he attained this within his heart.

Thus ends the Brahma Stuti contained in the Shri Maheshwar Tantra.
